The design for the ramp addresses the context of its peripheral conditions to produce a dynamic entrance to the island. After studying vehicle occupantsâ angles of focused vision, the design controls these angles by arranging openings in the barriers. These openings introduce sunlight and provide peripheral glimpses beyond without allowing immediately adjacent structures to be seen clearly. Composed of familiar bridge materials (metal tubing, precast concrete panels and posts), these barriers create dynamic views of Randallâs Island, making the entrance more dramatic.
