Completed and opened on February 2023, the rooftop playground of the YM&YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood (The Y) serves as a cultural venue for visitors to enjoy entertainment and exercise. Since its founding in 1917, the Y has improved the lives of people of all walks of life through essential social services and cutting-edge programs in health, wellness, education, and social justice. The Y, promoting diversity and inclusion, cares for those who are less fortunate. The rooftop playground complements and enhances this mission of social wellness.

The playground’s layout is compartmentalized into zones of play activities for younger and older children. These include a sprinkler area, sensory play features throughout, and an herb garden. The entire roof has a poured athletic flooring with a playful design.
