Ricardo Zurita Architecture & Planning (RZAPS) led the design of the expanded Sportime Tennis Center, now a 260,000-square-foot public facility and the official home of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy. Developed through a public-private partnership with NYC Parks, Sportime Clubs, and the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, the project features 30 regulation hard and clay courts, three youth training courts, and a dedicated stadium exhibition court. Seasonal air-supported structures provide fully enclosed play during winter months.

The design integrates clubhouse amenities, classrooms, fitness spaces, and landscaped outdoor plazas—creating a dynamic civic hub for year-round recreation, training, and youth development. The pre-engineered structures are clad in green and blue metal panels that echo the park’s natural setting, while bold supergraphics bring movement and identity to the facades. The project incorporates advanced sustainable strategies and exceeds New York City’s flood resilience standards.

“We aimed to design a civic sports facility that supports open parkland, public access and environmental responsibility,” said RZAPS Principal Ricardo Zurita
