These elements, lightly restored, left the existing blemishes which give the surfaces a beautiful patina. The brick walls were also left exposed. Onto this palette are placed contemporary materials including white oak and blackened steel designed in a minimalist esthetic. The design results in a space that recalls the continuum of time between its origin and the present.
The building is in the Upper West/Central Park West Historic District with the project receiving approval from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission.
