Sportime Tennis Center on Randall’s Island, which opened in 2009, recently received approval from New York City to expand. Once complete, the $20 million expansion project will make the center the largest enclosed tennis facility in the world. The design approved by the NYC Public Design Commission includes 30 regulation tennis courts, teaching courts for kids and other athletic amenities.

The project employs environmental technologies and strategies for energy reduction, water reuse and reduction, storm water management, the use of recycled building material and recycling of construction waste.

Adding playfulness and movement to the large scale building forms, bold, lenticular super graphics are applied to the exterior and were designed in collaboration with karlssonwilker. Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2020.
